The current wording says "[Meskel] celebrates the 4th Century discovery of the True Cross in Ethiopia". This implies the True Cross was found in Ethiopia, but I don't think this is the viewpoint of the Ethiopian Church (or any others). I think this is probably a misplaced modifier (i.e. Meskel is celebrated in Ethiopia) but I can find out for sure later. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:58, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
- Regarding my previous comment, the festival does commemorate the same Saint Helena and her discovery of the True Cross in Jerusalem. Anyway I have re-written the article, followed by more re-writes of my re-writes. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:19, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
- Meskel isn't only an Ethiopian / Eritrean festival. It is celebrated all over the world by Orthodox and Catholics alike. According to the Gregorian calendar the feast day is September 14 and in the Julian it is September 27. --Tiqur Anbessa 20:00, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
"Meskel:" Amharic?
Re: "'Meskel' is Amharic for 'cross'." Is it actually an Amharic word, or does it go back further, perhaps to the Ge'ez language? The holiday is also celebrated in Eritrea, where it is called Meskel as well. Perhaps it is Amharic, but a shared word (similar to "Noel"). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:19, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
- Mesqel is Ge'ez so this should be changed in the text. --Tiqur Anbessa 20:00, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Chibo
The Chibo article is of very low importance and I think it would be better if it was included in this article rather than having one of it's own. Pixelatedbro (talk) 02:08, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Well, there are actually three articles to which it might be merged, since it is used during those holidays. Only one of those is attributed to a source, though I've previously raised concerns about that source. But I agree that this is currently a DICDEF. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:36, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
Queen
I am assuming that Queen Helena and Queen Eleni are one and the same, but if so this should be made explicit. PurpleChez (talk) 14:41, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
