Mosquito? I don't think so - it's from masgid, a dialectal variant of masjid. There is a Spanish or Portuguese version of the word that sounds like mosquito, but it's unrelated. "Mosquito" is a diminutive derived from Latin musca, fly, and has nothing to do with masgid.
