Gay Icon Project

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 21:53, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Since when was Martha Reeves ever a Gay Icon? Reeves made several records that were popular within the gay community but Reeves was not emulated by the Gay Community in the manner and to the degree that Diana Ross was.

There is great truth to Reeves not being a "Gay Icon". Reeves was never looked upon as fashionable, theatrical, larger-than-life or even glamorous. The Gay Community was well-aware of whom she was and danced to her music but she was never emulated by any self-respecting Drag Queen as anyone to impersonate.

Wild Night

I think it would be a good thing to add that her song was used in the soundtrack to the movie "Thelma & Louise". It is a widely popular movie also because of its soudntrack, so, many people will know her song but not who sings it. I found out by accident. Dollvalley 14:26, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

What you found out was/is true. The song was, indeed, included within the soundtrack of "Thelma & Louise" but its singer, Martha Reeves, went barely noticed. Yes, Martha Reeves had a solo career of no note or acclaim. Her sole career went absolutely, positively nowhere. Her solo album, "Martha Reeves by Richard Perry" was so-called acclaimed but went nowhere when released in 1974. Yes, Reeves had a solo career as factuality not as acclaim. Dancin' in the Streets!

Should we include that a residential street near downtown Detroit is named after her ("Martha Reeves Drive")? RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 17:19, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Public Office

She may be the only living American music performer ever elected to public office...(the only other one I can think of is the late Sonny Bono). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.230.152.28 (talk) 00:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Word Choice

The article says: "She was instrumental in getting West Grand Boulevard changed to "Berry Gordy Jr.Boulevard" in 2007." Isn't it more likely that she was vocal about it? Oh well, it made me laugh ... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.201.204.128 (talk) 19:30, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Children?

Didn't Martha Reeves have a son? It is not stated anywhere in this article. TheGreatestLuvofAll ( chat with me ) 17:26, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It is reported that she has a son named "Eric" born in 1970. Her family as well as her son were never noted for any other reason except as a matter of factuality. Spenser - The Unknown (talk) 17:27, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
