The distance from Marathon to Athens is not 26.2 miles. The reason why a marathon race is 26.2 miles has nothing to with the distance from Marathon to Athens, which very well may be 26 miles(or not even 26 miles). the .2 came about when the Royal Family, in one of the early olympics wanted a better view of the race at the finish, so they extended it an additional .2 of a mile. The rest, well, as we say, is precedent and history.
Athenian navy defeated the Persians? Was it not the army? or at least both

Etymology
it says márathon means fennel, but immediately after states that márathon means a place full of fennel. Did it really mean two things for the same word? Nidaana (talk) 01:58, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
