Artificial features at southern end

There is some sort of dam and spillway at the southern end, making this lake not entirely natural at the moment. Does anyone know anything about these: dates? reasons? materials & construction method? I have done a search but I can find no mention of this, though they are clearly visible in aerial photographs on Google Maps and Bing Maps. FrankSier (talk) 17:08, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
