Correction to Madagascar's Ranking as Largest Country
Script error: No such module "protected edit request". Dear Editor,
I noticed a slight inaccuracy in the current description of Madagascar. While the statement mentions it as the "44th largest country in the world," the actual ranking is 46th.
Here's the corrected sentence:
Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar, is an island country comprising the island of Madagascar and numerous smaller peripheral islands. Lying off the southeastern coast of Africa, it is the world's fourth largest island, the second-largest island country, and the 46th largest country in the world. [14]
I believe this edit ensures the information aligns with current geographical data.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Yelstine (talk) 21:46, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- The reference cited in the article supports the claim that it's the second largest island nation by area, but it doesn't support the other claims. The CIA World Factbook lists it at #49. So, yes, something needs to be cleaned up here. Mgnbar (talk) 22:19, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- Madagascar is definitely not the 44th, the lead says it's the 44th, but the rest of the article itself cites 46th. I'm going to--for now--change this to 46th. 750h+ 01:47, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
tags
there are some tags like update (i added due to very outdated info) along with a section expansion tag. if these issues are not addressed by 1 July, I will probably put this up for FAR. 48JCL TALK 00:08, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
- Is it just the note about infobox stats? Because a lot of statistics are infrequently collected. Zanahary (talk) 00:42, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry didn't realize this post had to do with the update.... yes we only got new stats every 10 years .... last one was 2018 release https://data.humdata.org/m/dataset/cod-ps-mdg? Moxy🍁 00:47, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
New Zealand
The article’s Early history section states that Maagscar’s settlement predated that of New Zealand, but New Zealand’s article dates its settlement substantially earlier than Madagascar’s. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 19:31, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
- Madagascar says that Madagascar was settled by 550 CE (and maybe substantially earlier). New Zealand says that New Zealand was settled around 1300 CE. I don't see the problem. Mgnbar (talk) 04:38, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

Script error: No such module "protected edit request". Dear maintainer of the Madagascar page,
I would like to request an update to be made to the economy section of the page. The graph showing the GDP change is outdated (2015). I already uploaded the latest version of the graph to wikipedia commons.

- I mean, nice reference to the film franchise of the same name, but the Malagasy people have never recognized that song as an unofficial anthem. Maybe they could recognize it one day? BriDash9000 (talk) 04:10, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
Misspelling
"seperated" should be "separated?" Lucs Aeterna (talk) 23:17, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

Administrative Regions Disagreement
Under the Administrative divisions section, the article states that there are 22 regions. However, the Regions_of_Madagascar article states that there are 23, with Vatovavy-Fitovinany having been split into Vatovavy and Fitovinany on 16 June 2021. The table in the Madagascar page also links to each region individually, as opposed to the collective region, so there is at least some acknowledgement of the split already present in the Madagascar article. The table in that section should probably split the row:
| Vatovavy-Fitovinany | Fianarantsoa | 20,740 | 1,440,657 |
into the following rows:
| Vatovavy | Fianarantsoa | 12,775 | 705,675 |
| Fitovinany | Fianarantsoa | 19,605 | 1,435,882 |
(Sorry for the poor formatting above!)
It's not clear to me why the sum of the areas and populations disagree of the "new" records do not match the "old" record. Both are pulled directly from the Regions of Madagascar page. It would probably be wise to resolve that discrepancy before updating. Sigpwned (talk) 16:00, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

Script error: No such module "protected edit request". The small island of Nosy Boroha off the northeastern coast of Madagascar has been proposed by some historians as the site of the legendary pirate utopia of Libertalia.[62] ↓
The small island of Nosy Boraha (Île Sainte-Marie) off the northeastern coast of Madagascar is believed to be where the English pirate Henry Every founded his kingdom and reigned as Pirate King or Emperor. [1][2] Antsiranana Bay (Diego Suarez Bay) in northern Madagascar is rumored to be the site where the French pirate Misson founded his legendary pirate utopia, Libertalia. - File:Yes check.svg Done It's clear that the existing text was conflating the two pirate kingdoms.
