Talk:Mactel
This page should not be a candidate for deletion. As one can see from a New York Times Article [1], A PC Magazine article [2], and from a simple Google search [3], this colloquialism is already well established.
Also, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs himself used the word "MacIntel" in the 2005 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference Keynote.
The Apple Intel Transition page contains all of the information on this page, plus a lot more. They should be merged --Rogerd 18:10, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)
MacIntel
I just moved this article from MacIntel to Mactel because the term copyrighted by Apple is Mactel, _not_ "MacIntel" --Ctachme 17:34, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Even if that's true (and I assume you mean "trademarked by Apple", because names can't be copyrighted) that's not the term that's currently in popular use. Apple doesn't have the power to unilaterally change what people are calling it just by filing paperwork with the U.S. government. Furthermore, moving an article like that without first discussing it is inappropriate, which is why I put it back. Tverbeek 17:39, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Which internet are you using? A search for "Apple Mactel" yeilds over twice as many results on Google than "Apple MacIntel"... that means that more people are using "Mactel". And Apple's decision to call it Mactel does mean somthing. If everyone called iBooks "crapBooks" does that mean we would have the article title be "crapBooks"? No, we try to go by offical naming as much as possible. Like "Microsoft Windows", for example. I had assumed that since 1) more people use Mactel and 2) Apple uses Mactel that the use of Mactel over MacIntel was obvious and was a simple enough issue not to warrent debate. --Ctachme 02:47, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Since It's been a month and there is apparently no further discussion on the issue, I will now move the page. --Ctachme 11:07, 22 July 2005 (UTC) --- this crazy page totally confused me; is it mactel or macintel? as it stands, it claims it's a portmanteau (which mactel isn't but macintel is) and it claims that steve jobs called it macintel. this page needs a total rewrite or deletion .
