Describing his poems as "remarkable" is not NPOV. --Daniel C. Boyer 18:22, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Agreed -- I removed the adjective. --tom hinkle
Someone changed the birthyear from 1902 to 1904. My memory had always been that Cernuda lived to be just over 60, so I was pretty sure this was wrong. Trying to research on the web proved futile (so many of the references to Cernuda's birthday looked like they came from wikipedia). I remembered my pilgramage to Cernuda's birthplace and the photo I'd taken of the plaque put there by the city of Seville. Here's the text of the plaque, confirming the date:
- "EN ESTA CASA N°6 DE LA ANTIGUA
- CALLE CONDE DE TOJAR, HOY ACETRES
- NACIO EL 21 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1902
- LUIS CERNUDA
- EL POETA EJEMPLAR EL AMOR, EL DOLOR, Y EL EXILIO
- SEVILLA AGRADECIDA A SU MEMORIA"
I realize my photo of a plaque isn't the world's best source, but it will do for now. If you have some evidence as to another birth date, please post here before changing. Tom
Poetry
As this is English language Wikipedia, we need the poetry featured to be given in translation as well as in Spanish, by a sourced, notable translator. If not, the poetry will mean nothing to most readers. Also, the work is under copyright, so we cannot use large chunks of text. Articles with work under copyright, usually use one stanza. It's good to have example of his writing, but best to use secondary sources discussing the work, rather than lots and lots of the work itself. It is an encyclopaedic article, such as you might find in Britannica, where the discussion of the work is the main feature. This version of the article contained 33 excerpts from poems, which is about 30 too many. Span (talk) 23:28, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
