First Artificial Vacuum?

Surely von Guericke was preceded by Evangelista Torricelli in 1643? While Torricelli did not invent a pump, he did demonstrate production of a vacuum. Was von Guericke aware of Torricelli's work? "Method of increasing the intensity of electrical oscillations" circa 1906.
