How many districts are there in India?
Your ans: 775 But on counting it shows 771

- In the past, I've looked, but haven't been able to find, a reliable online source that gives the total for the entire country. Preferably, this would be frequently updated, as Indian states are frequently spawning new districts. You should have better luck finding totals for the individual states. Districts in Disputed Territory
Mirpur and Muzaffarabad district should be there because Oficial map of India includes this territory and POK is not recognised by any Country except Pakistan Het666 (talk) 18:23, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Het666 As per J&K govt, there are 20 districts in Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, there can't be Indian administrative districts in areas where administration is not under India currently. Dhruv edits (talk) 19:16, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Currently there are only 778 districts in India.
Districts in India are shown as 803 in this list. Currently there are only 778 districts in India. 25 districts are shown more. In this the total shown is 802 but 803 is shown. There is one more shown. Remaining 24 districts are shown more in these states.

- Your number is plausible, but is it correct? I, for one, have not been able to find an authoritative, up-to-date source for the total number of districts nationally. We should be able to have such a total, without having to add state totals together (which constitutes original research). Is there such a source? Dhtwiki (talk) 06:51, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Dhtwiki https://lgdirectory.gov.in is one such source. according to it, India currently has 783 districts. Unfortunately even that number is incorrect because the 2 new districts in Arunachal pradesh have not made it to lgdirectory. And they also stopped treating Mahe and Yanam in Puducherry as distrcits recently, which is technically correctly, but is problematic to depict, as they are still census districts. - That is the first apparently authoritative total number of districts that I have seen. However, that page doesn't give an up-front summary of the numbers per state or territory (perhaps those number are given in downloadable PDFs, but I wasn't willing to search that far).
