Bar graph of results from 1867 to 2011—update for 2015 and 2019
Can we get an update of File:Canadian federal election results.png to include 2015? Curly Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 08:40, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- I've replaced the old graph image with a graph generated from a template. This not only corrects some of the parties' colours, but also adds data from the 2015 and 2019 elections. I've also taken the liberty of trying to roughly sort the parties along the political spectrum, whereas the previous version was sorted chronologically, i.e. adding them to the bottom of the list as they appear in elections. I left out some minor parties like Labour, partly because the old PNG version did the same, but also because I understand too little about the political subtleties, e.g. I'm not sure whether I'd attribute Progressive-Labour to Progressive or to Labour, so I just ended up leaving them in Independent / others. I used the single election articles as a guideline as to which party counted towards parliamentary groups and which towards others. This should also make maintenance easier, as future results can just be added to the comma-delimited lists. --Safto Rangen (talk) 00:03, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Safto, thanks for the improvements you made.
- I see it was a bar graph, but I prefer the current line graph - I think it reads easier.
- Can you update the line graph of results [File:Canadian federal general elections.svg] ?
- The next election is coming soon, and the results from 2015, 2019 and 2021 are still outstanding.
- If a Wikipedia tool for this exists, please direct me to it?
- Thanks Ferdilouw (talk) 01:43, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Add Greens as "Fifth party" for 41st-43rd parliament?
It was notable that the greens won their first seat in 2011 and, I think, notable that they won 2 more in 2019. Is it worth updating the "Fifth party" slot to contain "1, 1, 3" (with respective reduction in "other" column) and a green bar?

Article title
The article title should be List of Canadian federal elections. -- GoodDay (talk) 00:03, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
- I agree. Shall I update it? Ferdilouw (talk) 01:44, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed, this should be the title. BLAIXX 19:48, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- I also agree with this proposed title. Yeoutie (talk) 13:03, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
Requested move 5 May 2025
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. Moved to List of Canadian federal elections. Commenters have affirmed that this page is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for federal elections in Canada, and the other two pages (List of federal by-elections in Canada and List of elections in the Province of Canada) can be linked in a hatnote. List of Canadian federal general elections → Template:No redirect – For consistency with list contents (i.e. 2025 Canadian federal election) and consensus on Talk page. BLAIXX 14:27, 4 May 2025 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). BLAIXX 23:39, 5 May 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 06:36, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
Creating a formal RM based on general support from the above section on the grounds that this article is the primary topic for the title "List of Canadian federal elections". FYI Template:Ping BLAIXX 23:48, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Support - as they're called federal elections. GoodDay (talk) 00:58, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- I undid a creation of a list of lists in Special:Diff/1289037864 before rereading Template:U's comment at the technical requests that Template:Tq. I am OK with restoring the list of lists and converting this to a multi move request. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 03:15, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think it should be a disambiguation page so I'd like to keep this RM as-is. BLAIXX 13:13, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Support per WP:CONCISE as "federal" is the main distinguisher from other elections here. Also compared to the other two DAB-mentioned pages, this would be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "federal election" in Canada, WP:CONSISTENT with the election articles themselves. By-elections and the predecessor elections are secondary elections to these ones, and a hatnote can easily be used. DankJae 22:26, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Support and change titles of future elections in Canada to Next Canadian federal election as opposed to 46th Canadian federal election, in line with other election pages on Wikipedia. schetm (talk) 20:23, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment there is substantial edit history at Template:La which was created in 2003 (this list article was created in 2004). So a Round-Robin page swap should be necessary, as there seems to have been some cross transfers between the two pages (the underlying edit history from the early 2000s seems to be only about general elections) -- 65.92.246.77 (talk) 04:26, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
