Official City Name?
According to the Kansas Post Office Directory the name of the town was changed in 1878 to Lincoln. Lincoln Center was used from 1870 to 1878. http://www.kshs.org/genealogists/places/postoffices.htm
The U.S. Geographic Names Information System lists the name as Lincoln and Lincoln Center as a variant name. http://geonames.usgs.gov/

- Lincoln Center is the correct name: the Census Bureau recognises that as the official name, as does its GNIS feature record. We don't have New York City at "The Big Apple" or Gann, Ohio at "Brinkhaven, Ohio", even though both of these situations are common names or nicknames for these communities. - It sounds like the city needs to go through procedures for each US Government agency to fix it. Likely would be a mess and take a lot of time and might be the reason why they haven't done it. Sbmeirow (talk) 00:37, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
