The books and pamphlets with their distinctive yellow (hardback) or orange (paperback) covers...

Was it always yellow? I have a copy of Tory MP by "Simon Haxey" from 1939 which is most definitely red hardback. (I also have at the moment a library copy of the paperback The People's Front by G.D.H. Cole from 1937 which is definitely orange) Timrollpickering 21:42, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I think the dust-covers of the hardbacks were yellow with the actual cover red -- I'll amend the post! ~~

I think that there are exceptions to every rule in the LBC regarding colouring...some LBC title's were even published without the distinctive design typical of the series. Especially as the war cut into availability of materials.

Gollancz didn't give any of the LBC titles yellow dust jackets - a couple of titles were issued with yellow paper covers (Hitler the Pawn & France Today) and at least one was blue - the Webb's 'Soviet Communism a new civilisation?' (KieronJS 07:59, 27 May 2007 (UTC))Reply

I have 'Your MP' by Gracchus and 'We were not all wrong' by Geoffrey Mander, both BLUE hardbacks inside yellow dust covers. Graemp (talk) 15:14, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

These are the same books as the LBC editions, but re-published (some months later?) for the general public. Note that the dustjackets give prices, whilst the LBC editions have "NOT FOR SALE TO THE PUBLIC" printed on them. As such, there's two editions floating around - one with the red covers, which was published under the auspices of the Left Book Club, and one with yellow dustjackets, which was a "normal" Gollancz copy. I don't believe the LBC copies ever had jackets.
The yellow covers with purple/black text was a normal format for Gollancz at the time, so you can see it on a variety of other books never published by the LBC as well. Shimgray | talk | 19:06, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Very useful resource

The list of all the titles and their authors is a tremendous resource. Thank you for putting it together. John Crowfoot (talk) 19:34, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Local groups and summer schools

There was a huge number of local groups of LBC and an annual summer school was very popular for a few years from 1936(?). Should these be included? I can come up with refs. Mike Spathaky (talk) 06:26, 10 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
