why not an article on market terrorism? or liberal terrorism? or wikipedia terrorism? or scientific terrorism? 79.166.46.182 (talk) 21:11, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why not left wing terrorism? There are articles on right wing terrorism.

The right actually commits acts of terrorism where as most accused terrorists on the left are fighting right wing terrorism 2601:19C:4A00:A8B3:403D:532D:9893:FB5C (talk) 12:29, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

File:Capitol 1983 bombing damage.jpeg
Damage resulted from the bombing outside of the Chamber of the United States Senate on November 7, 1983. The bombing was a retaliation hit against U.S. military involvement in Lebanon and Grenada.[1]

Is an image of the aftermath of the 1983 United States Senate bombing a good example of 'left-wing terrorism'? Neither Resistance Conspiracy case nor even 1983 United States Senate bombing itself emphasize the 'left-wing' ideology of the perpetrators. It's also odd to use an image of a relatively obscure bombing which is not even mentioned in the body of the article. This bombing was also in a country which, per the article has had only a single far-left attack in the past two decades. This bombing seems like an unusual case, and therefor doesn't seem like a good example of the entire topic. Resistance Conspiracy was part of the May 19th Communist Organization. The political angle is explicit. That it's not covered in this article could be improved. Psychopomplemousse (talk) 11:32, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

This article needs to be revisited

The actions of the left do not fit the dictionary definition of terrorism 2601:19C:4A00:A8B3:403D:532D:9893:FB5C (talk) 12:27, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Terrorist actions have been carried out by people across the political spectrum, that does not mean that everyone across the political spectrum is a terrorist. TFD (talk) 14:37, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
There's a very long tradition of left-wing terrorism, from propaganda of the deed (explicitly so) and insurrectionary anarchism to guerrilla warfare and Marxist-Leninist vanguard. Psychopomplemousse (talk) 11:28, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

It would be normal for this to be discussed in the body of the text. But my problem is that the only thing I can find relevant in the source is " Leftist organizations draw on Marxist and various neo-Marxist theories to justify their revolutionary strategy. A few groups are anarchist or anarchist-syndicalist or environmentally- oriented leftist groups that espouse the destruction of global capitalism. These groups are united by their anti-capitalist orientation and insistence on the need for a social revolution that frees the exploited (i.e., workers/peasants, other oppressed peoples, animals and the environment) from the capitalist system to become participants in a communal/collectivist or socialist-communist economic sysems." Over time, editors change both text and sources. Here's a link to how it appeared when I re-created the article fifteen years ago.
I think it is important that most sources draw a clear distinction between left-wing and anarchist terrorism. The only reason they might be combined is that anarchist terrorism today is fairly minor compared with left-wing terrorism and they are part of the Left.
As the sources point out, anarchist terrorism had its high mark from the late nineteenth century until the 1920s, while left-wing terrorism was prevalent in the 1970s to 1980s. Left-wing terrorism was carried out by highly organized groups with international affiliations that wanted to establish a socialist state with themselves in charge, and they claimed responsibility for their attacks. Anarchist terrorism was carried out by individuals or tiny groups with no international affiliations who d wanted to destroy government and did not claim responsibility. Unlike left-wing terrorists, anarchist terrorists tended to be loners with deep psychological problems. Also, anarchists do not base their beliefs on Marxism.
