Calendar

I know that the document is preserved in the annotated calendar of Polemius Silvius, working in the 5th century (in Gallia Narbonensis?). I'm not sure what form the Verona List takes and where Polemius Silvius got the list. So I may have blundered in my tweaks. I thought his name should be included. We need an entry on him. --11:18, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

Citation formats and consistency

Note that I have added cross-references from the lead text to References (the links use the year of publication). These use a feature of the Template:Tl template to link to the html anchors it produces. Other cite templates do not do this automatically. If you are re-writing consider using the Template:Tl or Template:Tl templates to add further cross-references in a consistent format. There is no hard and fast rule here but consistency might be of benefit for maintaining the article.—Ash (talk) 12:17, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conciseness

@Srnec See Wikipedia:TERSE. It's not necessary to include a large section of untranslated text with translated text next to it. None of the other Notitia articles contain lengthy sections of untranslated text. That approach also goes against Wikipedia:NPS. Fundamentally there isn't a need or precedent for including such a large amount of untranslated text, the translation alone will suffice. Ecrm87 (talk) 08:55, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

(1) I don't think TERSE applies here. Clearly it is not about lists or quotations, but about how to write prose in Wikivoice. (2) I think this is the exception outlined at NPS: Template:Xt. I think this is a short text, considering it is a list. It would take up very little space if we separated entries by interpunct like in the manuscript. If it is reasonable to include the full list in translation, I don't see the harm in including the original Latin side-by-side. I added the Latin when I added the barbarians, I think because there are several uncertain translations. The footnote referencing the English, currently [9], says only that the names are taken from the sources cited. The final paragraph I may have translated myself. If the Latin goes, it has to go too. Do you by any chance know Latin? Srnec (talk) 23:29, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
