"Routine" killings

Two years ago I tagged this statement:

Native American warriors generally made no distinction between combatants and noncombatants: women and children were routinely[citation needed] killed and scalped and prisoners were sometimes ritually tortured to death.

The whole sentence has since been cited with an incomplete reference (lacking page numbers), to a large (800 page) work first published in 1929. This statement (in particular the routine nature of these acts against non-combatants) needs to be more strongly cited to a more modern source. Magic♪piano 13:22, 16 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
