Ben Kiernan estimates about 1.7 million people were killed. Craig Etcheson of the Documentation Center of Cambodia suggests 2.2 million. Demographic analysis by Patrick Heuveline suggests between 1.2 and 3.4 million were killed, while Marek Sliwinski suggests 1.8 million is a conservative figure.
