Jack Russell Terrier → Jack Russell – WP:COMMONNAME Kolano123 (talk) 10:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. The present title is the name used by the Kennel Club, the FCI, and almost all the references in the page. Where's the evidence that the shorter title is the WP:COMMONNAME?. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:22, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. The breed clubs are named the Jack Russell Terrier Club of <America|Canada|Great Britain|etc.> Yes, they're often called "Jack Russells", or just "Jacks", but that's an intentional shorthand, not their name. jdege (talk) 13:35, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per @Jdege Killuminator (talk) 19:23, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Zero evidence provided that the short form is the common name. Meters (talk) 20:08, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose even ignoring the common name debacle what makes this the primary topic over Jack Russell himself? Traumnovelle (talk) 20:08, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Jack Russell is not a boy or a man, it's a dog. Kolano123 (talk) 20:16, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Jack Russell would disagree Traumnovelle (talk) 20:17, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose. There are plenty of people whose name is Jack Russell. Having the dog breed as the primary topic would only confuse the reader. JIP | Talk 20:36, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. While the shortened form most certainly is the common name (in the UK, at least), the person after whom the dog is named and the others on the list are collectively too significant not to disambiguate. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:22, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe consider Jack Russell (dog breed) as the new title then. Kolano123 (talk) 16:29, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia prefers natural disambiguation. Terrier is part of the name, serves as a natural disambiguation, is something one might type when looking for the breed, and is commonly recognised. Traumnovelle (talk) 18:41, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Well put. Meters (talk) 21:14, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Capitalization?
Shouldn't "terrier" be lowercased? Dog breeds aren't capitalized, except for the proper name of Jack Russell. 2603:8000:D101:941F:14C5:20C5:8FE8:B895 (talk) 04:59, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- The American Kennel Club sees to capitalize breed names. So do the Royal Kennel Club and the Federation Cynologique Internationale. And Wikipedia is consistent in capitalizing the breed titles (at least the ones I checked). Meters (talk) 05:17, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- In terms of veterinary literature treating standardised breeds as proper nouns is mixed. I've also seen sources consider the border in Border Terrier as a proper noun but not the border in Border Collie, and simply treating all of them as proper nouns avoids this point of contention.
- If you believe breed names shouldn't be treated as proper nouns it'd be best to start a central discussion that is well publicised. Traumnovelle (talk) 05:37, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
