I came to this page wondering what Jaap looks like, while searching for infos on Jaap. The current picture gives a better portrayal of Colin Powell's face than Jaap's. I would suspect there are better portraits available, but as I'm not familiar with his face, I'm not in the position to replace it --Anthony Liekens 00:16, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Looks

[1] check google images they usualy have several of any reasonably well known person. Jvd70 22:32, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your point being? jacoplane 22:36, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think the point was pretty obvious. The picture shown currently is one of some guy shaking hands with George Bush, not a portrait of Jaap de Hoop Scheffer...TRBlom 11:13, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The reason for the misunderstanding was the heading. Looks doesn't mean portrait.

Pronunciation

Anyone who knows IPA care to show how we should say it? Many folks probably need to know about the /sk/ at the start of the last name and how to say the oo.

Typography

There needs to be consistency on the de/De. I understand that Dutch-speakers in Belgium write De to distinguish that Dutch definite article from de, French for of.

[response to the above:] In the Netherlands, it is customary not to use capital letters when a last name starts with "de" or "van" when it is preceded by the person's first name. As far as I can see the article is correct in this way. Also see Van Rij mentioned in the article, with a capital V. If he were referred to by his complete name it would read Marnix van Rij, without the capital V.

Hi everybody, I'm from Russia. Does anybody can explain to me, why Jaap de Hoop Scheffer was been excluded out of NATO ?? 95.28.248.192 (talk) 18:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC) LexaReply

Alexandra de Hoop Scheffer

Is this one of his daughters?

As she is also playing a significant role in politics she should be mentioned in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.116.160.48 (talk) 09:47, 30 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
