Great pictures. The section that you did had a good amount of information and it is intriguing! Ties in nicely with what you talked about on tuesday in your lecture! Sara — Preceding unsigned comment added by Slfitzpa (talk • contribs) 03:04, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Etymology
The main part of the etymology section was unsourced for a long time and did not seem to reflect a general scholarly view, in which apparently the "apadana" etymology is not considered secure. I've added some very basic introductory sentences and statements to that effect, with some minor rewording elsewhere (see this edit), but I haven't found more information from quick searches. The connection between the words apadana and iwan, two very different forms, is also not explained in the article. So we need a fuller explanation based on current scholarly literature (which may or may not have concrete alternate theories).
Note: I nearly thought that some of the text had been copied from this Master's thesis by a student at METU (which also concludes by saying the etymology is uncertain), until I saw that the Wikipedia text was older than that thesis and so it was likely copied in the other direction. If you're looking for references and come across that paper, please don't cite it, per WP:CIRCULAR. Thanks, R Prazeres (talk) 15:14, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
The formal gateway to the iwan is called pishtaq
This is only a term used in Persian-speaking countries. It is not as universal as iwan, and this should be indicated. 2603:7081:5D00:385C:8D6B:2CA5:29C2:417C (talk) 22:25, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
