Why this article?
I know this is a featured article (I praise whoever wrote it for their hard work), but do we really need an independent article about a route designation with nonexistent shields, and entirely overlaps with another highway? I would think anyone unfamiliar with the topic who wants to read about "that highway just north of the center of Grand Rapids" is going to search on Google for "US 131", since that's what the signs say and presumably what everyone calls it.
Looking at the precedent on other articles about roads in the US, we seem to just combine hidden designations like this one into the articles about the roads on which they overlap with. For example, Interstate 595 (Maryland) redirects to U.S. Route 50 in Maryland, Interstate 587 redirects to New York State Route 28, New Jersey Route 700 redirects to New Jersey Turnpike, just to name a few.
I want to get some answers before I actually propose a merge (there could be some good reason that this is a stand-alone article that I am not aware of), but I'd like to hear from the "experts" what motivated the creation, let alone FA nomination, of this article. 150.250.5.24 (talk) 02:25, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- @150.250.5.24: part of I-296 is not concurrent with US 131 in Walker, so it doesn't "entirely overlap[] with another highway". There are two separate exits along that non-concurrent segment. Additionally, the detailed history of why the I-296 signage was removed would be either overly detailed in the history of US 131, or it would be so summarized that it would be lost in the shuffle.
