These fakes from here end up in other projects, for example, in the Turkish Wikipedia there were disputes about this inaccurate information. Do not enter information that is not in the sources. Товболатов (talk) 21:33, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

territory size

there's been some confusion, both in external sources and on here, about how large Ingushetia is. i thought it'd be a good idea to make a note of this on the talk page, so we can avoid communicating via revert. pinging @Mellk as a previous contributor, and i'll notify the IP editors involved since i don't think you can ping IPs directly. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 23:47, 31 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

According to The Territories of the Russian Federation 2023: "The Republic occupies 3,628 sq km (1,401 sq miles)" (p. 176). Mellk (talk) 09:07, 1 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
The Russian Wikipedia also says 3,123 and cites this source from 2020 but I would rather use a better source than this. Mellk (talk) 09:16, 1 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
interesting; i wonder if there's any secondary discussion of this discrepancy ... sawyer * he/they * talk 20:18, 2 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
The Federation Council website for example says 3.1 thousand sq km. Looking at an archived version of the same page, it previously said 3.6 thousand sq km. So it seems there was a change around 2020 but the book mentioned above failed to update this? I will have to find other sources. Mellk (talk) 20:29, 2 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
i've found some news articles covering the border disputes with Chechnya & N. Ossetia - from pretty recently too!
seems like this accounts for the back-and-forth. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 02:19, 3 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
