Giorgio de Chirico as a surrealist

The article currently labels Giorgio de Chirico as a surrealist, based on a quotation from Fumito Ueda. The source only quotes Ueda, who is not an authority, as well as uses the more ambiguous "surrealistic", which could refer to a general trait rather than the movement. The article on Chirico clearly states that he influenced the surrealists, not the other way around. The painting in question was created several years before the surrealist movement was launched (the word had previously been coined by Guillaume Apollinaire, but with a different meaning, and Chirico had not adopted it). It's clearly wrong to attribute a painter to a movement he was not a part of based on Ueda's mistake or broader use of the word "surrealistic". Smetanahue (talk) 14:38, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I do note our article on Chirico incorporates him as both metaphysical and surrealist, and just because Nostalgia.. proceeds the surrealist movement doesn't necessary mean calling Chirico surrealist is wrong since his later works were considered that. Here though, we could go two ways: remove the surrealist label altogether, where in the caption this would not be a problem but would be an odd absence in the body; or to say both metaphysical/surrealist, which only weighs down the caption. --MASEM (t) 14:43, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Chirico was never a member of the surrealist group. He had his metaphysical thing going on, and later on switched to a more classicist or baroque style. His article only states that the surrealists were influenced by him (as were several other movements). I'm fine with Ueda's quote staying in the article, perhaps with an added [sic], but Wikipedia itself shouldn't make this claim. Smetanahue (talk) 14:54, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Would it be fair to call him a modernist in WP's voice (if I understand correctly, both metaphysical and surrealist fall into that), and leave the "surrealist" quote? --MASEM (t) 14:58, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sure, that would work. We could also just skip the labels altogether if it becomes too contrived. It's obviously not central to the subject of this article. Smetanahue (talk) 15:03, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Soundtrack Tracklist

I think it would be a great idea to add a tracklist to the soundtrack and more info about it. 2601:601:1401:A700:899:C8AB:DF6:D887 (talk) 20:35, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
