Source for the death toll downgrade

A while ago, the death toll for Hurricane Mitch listed on Wikipedia was downgraded from 19,325 to 11,374. I'm unaware of any primary or reliable source that backs up such a drastic downgrade. EPicmAx4 (talk) 08:35, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Template:Ping I currently don't believe I have a source (I'm too lazy to look), but the IP that changed it to 19,325 used original resource, without telling where the extra 7,900+ deaths were. So, my question is, where the source backing up 19,325 deaths. Stay safe, Cyclone Toby 01:22, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Since neither 19325 or 11374 had sources, the deaths should be unknown until a reliable source comes 210.3.50.94 (talk) 05:42, 24 March 2025 (UTC)

Merge Effects of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras?

The result of this discussion was to merge Effects of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras with Hurricane Mitch. There is consensus that merging Effects of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras with Hurricane Mitch would help benefit the latter in terms of length and quality. Given that Mitch's article is only B-class, and less than 5,000 words, and there is a lot of duplication with the Honduras sub-article, I believe the sub-article should be merged. Given the magnitude of death and destruction that occurred in Honduras and by far being the most significant aspect of Mitch (7,000 deaths alone in Honduras is just catastrophic), I’m leaning towards opposing a merger. Couldn’t we just summarize the impacts in the main article while leaving the heavy lifting for the sub-article? MarioProtIV (^talk/_contribs) 18:12, 13 April 2025 (UTC)

The article already has a summary for Honduras, and the main Mitch article is still very much on the short side. Since it's less than 5,000 words, it could be improved by adding the Honduras article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:19, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
