this page reads too much like a personal account with analogies etc... also, does anyone know where some of the oldest giant eagles were founded and if any of the original stores are still around today? 71.240.69.83 (talk) 21:38, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Their seems to be many citations missing in the section about energy conservation. I think it may need deleted unless it can be cited. Also about Getgo and their gas I am have heard its some small refinery that I can't recall the name and I couldnt provide a source so that information for now is kind of lost. --Theebayk1d (talk) 13:06, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

What else do we need to do to clean up the article? I just fixed some grammar and added on a bit to every section. Still, it does need some work. The Fizzy Fuzzy 19:54, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

Does anyone have information on where GetGo gets there gas from? What gas supplier are they contracted with to acquire gas and resell? Their website is vague on this matter. MediaReport 13:09, 2 July, 2008 (UTC)

This page reads like an advertisement. It needs to read more objectively and could perhaps use some criticism of the company. A one-sided story doesn't sound very trustworthy. Interrogatrix 16:20, 1 September, 2008 (UTC)

The opening paragraph states that it was founded in 1918, however the infomration located in the box on the right side of the page says 1931. Which is correct?--Swprofile 17:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The official starting point for Giant Eagle is 1931. In 1918, three of the five future founders (Joe Goldstein, Joe Porter, and Ben Chait) of Giant Eagle started the Eagle Grocery chain, which they sold to the Kroger Company in 1925. The Giant Eagle name is a reference to this first chain. Starchivist (talk) 17:13, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Separate page for GetGo

I just inserted an infobox suggesting that we split the GetGo brand from the main Giant Eagle page and give it its own page. The GetGo article has been starting to get a little longer than it should be and it's already longer than a lot of convenience store articles. Any support for a split? Thanks! Biased/unsourced

I'm removing the part under the loyalty program about the Altoona market featuring similar programs to fuelperks, yet not as successful. First of all because it lacks a source, and secondly, because I am actually from Altoona and see many other grocery stores with gas incentive programs with full gas pumps and parking lots.--TwistedArachnid 21 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.235.239.73 (talk)

Updated info

Market District info has been updated to show 5 stores now in the chain. Even though this has been flagged as having some info outdated, there really has not been much new information that has come out for Giant Eagle recently. However, I do see the possibility of splitting the Market District, GetGo, and Valu King brands into their own articles as these can really be expanded.Babyox4420 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:13, 4 April 2012 (UTC).Reply

I changed the express section to reflect that it now has two opened stores. One is in Indiana, PA. I know it is open because I had lunch there today :)

Under the "Market District Express" subtopic, it states that the Market District Express concept was unveiled in 2024 (no source given for that), then immediately goes on to say that Market District Express stores began opening in 2013 (there are sources to back this up). This means that the 2024 date must be incorrect, but I can't locate any kind of official/dated press release or article or anything about when exactly the company announced the MD Express concept. If someone is able to find a source and add it in, you have my eternal gratitude. --Panfr13dgy0z4 (talk) 02:39, 16 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I found a simple secondary source "announcement," though nothing official. Yes, the date was clearly wrong, so I just changed that to 2013, when the first store was oepened. We can look for more sources, but for the time being, I think it's good. pillowcrow 16:01, 16 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Opinion & Original Research in "Criticism"

It seems to me that the first paragraph of the "Criticism" section should be rewritten or removed; it doesn't cite a single source, and it reads almost like an advertisement for its competitors ("as well as no frills supermarkets attracting value-seeking customers such as Aldi, Save-A-Lot, and relative newcomer Bottom Dollar"). Unless the paragraph gets some citations that indicate that notable people or publications have complained about the company's local market share, I'd say it should be removed. Thoughts? -Anotheronewiki (talk) 14:01, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, or the part about Giant Eagle being virtually a "non-factor" when competing with Kroger. Sounds more like smack-talk. Not sourced.72.93.87.3 (talk) 14:00, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
