"passed a test"
Presumably this means he took and passed his eleven-plus, allowing him to attend a state grammar school rather than a secondary modern school. This was an ordeal that most 11 year old kids went through in the England of the 50s and 60s. Does anyone have a good ref confirming this? Ef80 (talk) 19:18, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
