I can't figure out how to link to the German version of this page, from which the content originates.

Raiffeisen was the single most important leader in world credit union history. He was also a major figure in microfinance, as he developed highly effective methods of delivering microfinance services in poor rural communities -- frequently imitated but rarely with success. But there is almost no material on his life available in English; someone who knows German will have to write this.
