I visited Friday Harbour 3 years ago. The official story for the name of the town is something along the lines that it was discovered by Christian missionaries on Good Friday (ala Easter Island). But the more apochraphal story and the one told to me by more than one native went like this:

Christian missionaries row up near shore and call out to the inhabitants that are there, "What BAY is this?" And the person calls back, "Friday."

I'm from Friday Harbor, and sorry to disappoint you...but there is no cool story regarding it's name, the man who first settled on the Island had the last name of Friday, hence Friday Harbor.

That's a strange looking drawing of San Juan Island in the infobox! The one at San Juan Island looks true. --Hordaland (talk) 06:27, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I just noted that on the map's own talk page, and offered this screenshot from Google Maps as illustration of the reality. This map makes most of San Juan County appear to be a single land mass, and even at that seems to misrepresent the location of Friday Harbor vis-à-vis the water. --Haruo (talk) 18:12, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
