Fox trot or foxtrot is derived from the motion of a fox running at low speeds. What is unusual about the fox is that it steps using both legs on one side, and then steps with the pair on the other side. All four legs are off the ground at once when the fox is in between steps. However, when running at higher speeds or when walking, it does not trot in this manner.

This explanation does not match with what horse's fox trot is: fox trot is a diagonal gait. Mikkalai 21:08, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
