Speaking as a Jew, we don't actually spell or pronounce the four-letter (four in hebrew) name of the deity in our religion - we consider it a violation of the 3rd commandment. I think Jews would find the statement a bit offensive. OfficerCow (talk) 05:21, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Effective date?

The way the House Bill 1796 is worded, it appears the state legislature has to officially adopt the new flag after its approval by voters: "then the Legislature shall enact into law the new design as the official Mississippi State Flag during the next regular session of the Legislature after the election.". If that's the case then the new flag isn't official just yet as the infobox purports. – Illegitimate Barrister (talk • contribs), 12:08, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Per this source, the new flag is already in use in the state in many places. The legislature has to approve the referendum, but it's mandated to go by the referendum's results. As long as we make it clear in the text that the legislature still has to approve it, as we already do in the infobox. BilCat (talk) 00:21, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

Blue bar color on previous flag versions

As you can see, the blue bar and the Confederate saltire on the middle flag (1996-2001) are a lighter shade than that of the other two. Does anyone know if this is in anyway official? If so, we need to make some changes to the flags at 2001 Mississippi flag referendum. If not, then the middle flag here need to be corrected. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 23:58, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

I suspect Illegitimate Barrister is right about the variation, but in that case what is the difference between the 2nd and 3rd versions? They look the same, as nothing changed in 2001. Venqax (talk) 20:08, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

1894 flag at Walmart

When I moved to Mississippi in 2002 from overseas I had never once seen a Mississippi flag at a Walmart. It was conspicuous because when I went to a Walmart in Alabama, I noticed a state flag. I had a little mental dialogue in my head, and then I thought perhaps Walmart was abstaining because of the design. I have (prior to flag change) only seen two American flags where other Walmarts would have a national and state flag side by side.

Confederate Design

The confederate war flag in the canton is not the only bit of confederate symbolism in the previous flag. That flag, with its broad three stripes, is actualy the first flag of the confederacy, the ‘stars and bars’, with the circle of stars removed from the canton, and replaced with the confederate war flag. Georgia still has this design in its current flag.

Some notice of this should be taken in the article. It was the reason they did not just replace the war flag in the canton with a magnolia, but adopted a whole new design. All info must be properly sourced, of course. 2601:647:667F:8610:985C:C79D:3F18:7B5A (talk) 20:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
