Eye of Providence - God and the Sun
I tweaked the beginning of the article... The Eye of Providence (or the All-Seeing Eye of God) is a symbol that depicts an eye, often enclosed in a triangle and surrounded by rays of light or glory, meant to represent divine providence and the Sun, whereby the eye of God watches over humanity. The latin words ANNUT COEPTIS NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM translate from latin to "He has favoured our undertakings, a new order of the ages". 2603:3020:BE7:A000:34F0:3D04:1A72:1E79 (talk) 14:56, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
- We reverted your good faith addition… While the motto appears WITH the eye of providence in the Great Seal of the United States, that is the only association - the motto isn’t included in other depictions of they eye. Blueboar (talk) 22:18, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
Connection to the Illuminati
Is it worth stating in the article that numerous conspiracy theories have linked the eye of providence to the Illuminati? In particular the supposed connection of the Founding Fathers to the Illuminati? Hemlockian (talk) 10:17, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- The problem is that there are no reliable sources that discuss such a link.
- The reality is that the Illuminati didn’t use the eye as a symbol, but for some reason pop culture has got it into its collective mind that they did. Probably because of the association with freemasonry. Blueboar (talk) 13:24, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Whether the original Illuminati used or didn't use the symbol should be irrelevant. What matters is that some people claim there is a modern, copycat-like group using the name Illuminati and the eye as their symbol - whether this is true or not is not something we can source. It's also worth mentioning that we have a well-sourced page under Illuminati in popular culture so it's not like saying "various modern media depict a group named the Illuminati who use the eye as their symbol" is unfounded, we could even link the main article into it. The fact that Illuminati does link to Eye of Providence but this page does not feels like an oversight to me. ShadowSWilliam (talk) 12:29, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
