City, town, village or hamlet?
Are you sure that 600-odd people makes a city ? Sounds like a village at best to me. -- Hackerjack 22:48, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Hi. I created a headline for this question. I would agree that it could not be described as a city. I would call it a hamlet, as villages needs a church to be designated as such. This is the traditional English definitions on hamlets and villages in Europe at least. I can't say how it is in America or elsewhere. Im not completely sure about the use of the word 'town', but I believe it is a loose description that could fit almost all sizes? If this is true, we could just use the word town to cover Elk Horn. - BTW. I can see, that this a deeply rooted category-problem. There is a 'category:Cities in Iowa' for example and many of these "cities" are the size of Elk Horn. RhinoMind (talk) 13:20, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- In the US (or at least Iowa)- the term "city" is not related to the size of the community, just if it is incorporated or not. 204.85.253.248 (talk) 07:59, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
