Eddie Izzard → Template:No redirect – MOS:GENDERID, WP:PRECISE, WP:COMMONNAME. Citation already in article (LA Times, 7 March 2023. "Call her Suzy: Eddie Izzard adds to her name so fans ‘can’t make a mistake’"). Quote from Izzard: “So, I’m going to be Suzy Eddie Izzard. That’s how I’m going to roll so people can choose what they want.” LesbianTiamat (She/Her) (troll/pester) 03:05, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I lean oppose here on the basis that Wikipedia articles generally use people's public-facing names, not private, and my reading of the L.A. Times article is that Izzard uses "Suzy Eddie" privately and "Eddie" publicly. This is seen in both Izzard's comments and the fact that the Times article continues to call her "Eddie". What I would suggest is a clearer lede, something like Template:Xt. Now, if there is newer information that she prefers "Suzy Eddie" in all contexts, then I would support. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 03:18, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Retracting move request. Okay, that sounds like a good lede. I'll implement it. The redirect from Suzy Eddie Izzard is already set up, and she doesn't mind which name, so whether this page is moved is unimportant. LesbianTiamat (She/Her) (troll/pester) 03:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Elite Marathoner or Not...?
This article would have one think that the subject is running ...running daily marathons with a mere 5 weeks of training. Not only that, but they apparently rebounded from a hospital stay with less than a day of recovery. Readers are also supposed to be concerned about the risks Izzard took to run marathons in 40C weather in South Africa.
Except that Izzard took anywhere from 5hrs to 10 hrs per marathon. This is anywhere from considerably slower than average (4hrs) to a medium walking pace. For reference a well-trained non-professional long-distance runner could comfortably run a marathon in less than 3 hrs.
Any vaguely fit person could do this. JSory (talk) 06:58, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- If there are good sources, I'm not sure why his times couldn't be added. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:41, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- I added the BBC times, but can't find any for his other runs. It seems that the best times claimed are 5:34.JSory (talk) 09:38, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- I think that's adequate and very useful. I have really never thought of him as an elite athlete, but I can see your point. Perhaps his unimpressive times make his efforts look more arduous. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:50, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
