Demographics
The listed ethnic groups together add up to more than 100%. I suspect the Amhara are actually 23% rather than 33%.
Not "the administrative capital"
Removed the statement that Dire Dawa is the administrative capital of Ethiopia. I wondered if the writer meant administrative capital of a particular region, except Dire Dawa is its own administrative area. Gyrofrog 07:38, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Etymology
I've seen several flamewars on the competing claims (present and historical) to the area between Somalis and the now-more numerous Oromo. The present name seems to be Oromo so I'm providing that source and would appreciate if it could be protected from Template:Sced removal.
The flamewars I've seen involved a competing claim that the city's name derived from Somali dir. If someone could find a Template:Sc for that (along with whatever "dawa" is supposed to mean), please include it as well, without removing the sourced Omoroo derivation. — LlywelynII 11:09, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Dirree means plain or field in Oromo. It is spelt with two ee so the Oromo may have a typo 'Dirree Dhawaa'.
