VC version

It says that this is coming out on the Wii Virtual Console, can we get a source on this please?

Screenshot

Someone with a sufficiently adequate computer (that is, not me) should take a screenshot of the character select screen (preferably with all characters unlocked) for use in the Characters section. I think it would make an excellent addition to the article. - Vague | Rant 04:34, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC)

Needs expanding

first off,im 14 years old,and what can i say? this brought back wonderful memories :) however, when one read the article, one may think that its like : "Choose a character,Choose a course, and youre ready to go" however its far aways from that. and how you got around on the island should also be noted, and that you could have races with that blue elephant. also how you unlock the future funland (i think thats the name) i never unlocked it,but i remember a giant head of Wizpig near a cascade of water, and that it was made out of 4 parts that got coloured once you had unlocked everything in one area. just a note Lord revan 20:19, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Let go of the accelerator 'A' before you hit a zipper, you should be able to beat Wizpig then after a few tries, i loved this game, i beat it all the time for the hell of it, ive beaten the whole thing (normal, backwards, T. T.'s Trials, ive got all of the 10 characters, have a good one. -Luke

No (non-notable) codes or glitches!

I have removed the codes and glitches section, in accordance with the consensus of the CVG WikiProject. Please do not add the sections back. Feel free to post your comments here. --Pagrashtak 20:08, 21 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the same codes and glitches from Wikibooks, by deleting the Wikibooks:Diddy Kong Racing Codes and Glitches page. The codes and glitches were trying to stand alone as a isolated textbook, without even an explanation that "Diddy Kong Racing" is the name of a video game.
If you want to see the codes and glitches deleted from Wikibooks, you can view them in this old version of the Wikipedia article. --Kernigh 21:15, 3 May 2006 (UTC) (Wikibooks:User:Kernigh)Reply

Donkey Kong Racing

Why does Donkey Kong Racing link to this page, when Donkey Kong Racing was supposed to be a sequel to this when it was cancelled?

Diddy Kong Racing DS

Microsoft and Rare are most likely more inclined to do the remake of Diddy Kong Racing rather than Donkey Kong 64. --ZachKudrna18@yahoo.com

Can we please not merge the DS version with this page because truly they are two different games no matter what they include. --Victory93 04:28, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Game Selling

Diddy Kong Racing has sold more copies than Donkey Kong 64 did. --Zachkudrna18@yahoo.com

Your point being?--Drat (Talk) 02:14, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Drumstick'd

The article only makes mention of running over a red-crested frog to unlock Drumstick, which I heard rumors of but never actually accomplished. It's been a while since I last played this game, but I do remember I unlocked Drumstick after I beat one or two of the levels in Future Funland. Anyone else? Yellow Dinosaur

I removed the info as it is not sourced and seems to be just one person's opinion. Is there any evidence that anyone, other than the random IP that added it months ago, considers it an in-joke?--Drat (Talk) 12:02, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's no point in having the Yellow Dinosaur part in this article, in my opinion. From the looks of it, it's either a filler character to make the introduction movie look more "busy" or an obstacle that Rare forgot to place in a level. I've also Googled the part about the in-joke and there's practically nothing there. Matt489 13:00, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

In French

The course "Canyon Aux Boulets", which means "Boulder Canyon", the French word, "Boulets" means "Boulder" and Boulets is pronounced: Boulets (BOO-lay), because in French, the letters D, S, T, and Z cannot be heard in that language, and in French, the noun precedes the adjective, natively. The word "track/tracks" translated into French as "course" in this game, the French word, "course" is the same spelling as the English word, "course", except the French use of the word is pronounced: course (KOOR), because the letter, "S" cannot be heard. --PJ Pete

Additional headlines

We will need the "Vehicles" headline. One of the descriptions is that the car is the slowest vehicle to get around in the water. --PJ Pete

Timber

I've heard rumors that Timber was supposed to have his own game, but it got cancelled. Does anyone know if that's true?--Rat235478683--

Of course it is true! He also had his own wiki page, but someone cancelled it. I'm asking why...--Kombatgod (talk) 16:23, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The reason there's no article on Timber is because he is a character who has only appeared in one game and has very little backstory.--Drat (Talk) 16:34, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question

Will they be a diddy kong racing on virtual console with a download version from the Nintendo 64?Shirleybiscuit

I doubt it. They are just about to release Diddy Kong Racing DS.--Drat (Talk) 19:24, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

More than likely, no. Why? Because the game is both developed and published by Rare, and Microsoft bought Rare in 2002 so they can't support Nintendo's consoles anymore. -Mega Man 5 7 September 2008 (UTC)

2nd fastest character.

as taken in the main article:

> Banjo ... second fastest racer. > Drumstick ... is the 2nd fastest character.

Which is correct?

Perhaps speed, acceleration, handling, etc. should be displayed in a more easily compared grid or graph format if possible?--RedKnight 15:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

A lot of that detail isn't needed in the first place WP:NOT a game guide.--Drat (Talk) 01:54, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I understand that, but there is yet to be an entry at StrategyWiki for the title, and at the very least the '2nd fastest character' duplication error should be corrected--RedKnight 22:32, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it should be removed altogether as 'fastest' is a very multi-interpretable aspect. Fastest in terms of top speed, or fastest in terms of the best racer? This isn't clarified in the text, and if any, we should add which (2) racers have the highest top speed (T.T. and Drumstick/Krunch/Banjo), and not which racer is the best, because the latter is a highly subjective feature. I for one, can pull off extremely good performances with Conker, but someone else added that 'many believe' (which basically is Wikipedian for 'In my opinion') Tiptup is the best racer to use. While he might be good to use in regular races due to his fast acceleration, he is nowhere near the best time trial racer. In the end I think we should just delete all disputable information. -DraugenCP

Greenwood Village

For a long time, I've had a hunch that Greedwood Village may be Pipsy's home village. It's up in the mountains, after all, and the music seems to be similar to Pipsy's theme song in the Select a Character screen. Does anybody else think that this may be the case? --Luigifan 11:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

This isn't a forum. Also, to put such a thing in the article would be original research.--Drat (Talk) 11:50, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I never said that I have any intention of putting it in the article, I just asked for opinions. --Luigifan 21:35, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
You should probably ask for opinions of that nature elsewhere. Like Drat said, this isn't a forum. If you have something to say about Diddy Kong Racing in a Wikipedia Talk Page, it should be questions, comments, or suggestions about improving the article. 98.202.45.178 04:28, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Octagon Zipper

"A hovercraft could even use it in the right place"

This phrase is a little confusing, considering at the beginning it said that only hovercrafts and planes could use it. I don't know much of anything about the game, so if someone could expand on what to actually is meant to be said here, it will help the article :)<3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 17:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cartoon?

Oh hi guys! So, some days ago, I had posted a piece of fan art of Diddy Kong Racing where I had depicted the characters in my own, cartoony style. Then some guy said that there apparently, was a cartoon of Diddy Kong Racing. Well, I looked everywhere, but couldn't find anything. Is there actually a cartoon of the game somewhere? I doubt it, but I'll just ask here to be sure... Ribbedebie (talk) 14:00, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

The closest thing I can think of is this animated commercial from Japan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQpwvrFFcGw --JFP (talk) 02:25, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Double Reception

The reception section is on the page twice, with different content for both copies. Just sayin'. --174.114.172.181 (talk) 01:17, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the notice. The second section is for the DS remake, I have now clarified that. Salvidrim (talk) 01:28, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Published By

This game was published by Rareware not Nintendo, the first game they published from what I've heard DreamsDreams (talk) 17:10, 1 May 2012 (UTC)DreamsDreamsReply

Hm, that's possible! Have you found a reliable source? :) Salvidrim! 17:15, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've got a boxed version of the game it says published by Rareware DreamsDreams (talk) 17:19, 7 August 2012 (UTC)DreamsDreamsReply

I also see Rare as the publisher in the instruction manual. Nintendo is noted as just exclusive distributor. nintendo may be the publisher for the japanese release. Lucia Black (talk) 02:46, 29 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
