Tuning
The dohl is listed at List of percussion insruments as tuned percussion, and seems to be pitched percussion but it's an interesting case.
The bass head seems to be tuned to a bass note reflecting the scale used in the music. If this is the case, then it's pitched percussion IMO, even if as it appears the treble head is unpitched. Andrewa (talk) 15:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Playing
http://tablasitar.net/punjabi-bhagra-dhol-q-a/ It is played with two sticks Dagga and Tilli. Dagga is used on the bass side, and a tilli on the treble side. From videos it appears the dagga is a stick with a 90 degree bend close to the beater end, but the flat of the end is used, rather than the tip as with some similar African drumstcks. The tilli appears straight and again the flat is used, striking also the rim. Andrewa (talk) 15:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
