adding more under Types section

Mainstream Desktops

These desktops are used as home PCs but has a heavy price tag. They are equipped with powerful processors, graphic cards and huge RAM capacity over and above having many complex factors. It is very common for them to have multiple hard drives as they are mostly used for gaming.[1]

Full-Sized Desktops

These desktops are very common and quiet budget friendly compared to others in the market. It comes with separate display component and processing component. The components are connected by cables to execute command from each other. These computers are easy to customize and upgrade as per our requirement.[1]

Home Theater Desktops

These desktops are connected to home entertainment systems and typically used for amusement purpose. They come with high definition display, video graphics, surround sound and TV tuner systems to compliment typical PC features.[1]

Compact Desktops

These desktops are same as Full-Sized desktops but the only different is it's size. These are almost half of them and cost, performance same as Full-Sized desktops. Compact desktops are very difficult to customize and upgrade.[1]

adding more under Comparison with laptops

Desktop computer has an advantage over a laptop when you need to minimize power consumption and heat output means you will never be able to overclock it to the sort of performance levels achieved by Cyberpower's Gamer Infinity PC, for instance. Nor will you be able to fit a laptop with the kind of graphic cards found in most of these desktop systems. You may find a laptop with high-definition Blu-ray drives, but you may not get much benefit if you're watching a Blu-ray film on a screen that's 17in or smaller. In contrast, the smallest monitor supplied with these £1,299 PCs was 19in, with more than one 24in monitor included as well. These monitors are great for watching films, as well as for performing tasks such as video editing or multi-track music recording. If you are looking for a really powerful PC, then these desktop computer still hold an edge over the modern laptops.[2] Rajk88 (talk) 19:37, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Overclocking & "Cyberpower's Gamer Infinity PC"

A citation should be added to support this specific PC's overclocking potential. Better yet, the specific (and somewhat useless) comparison between something general (laptops) and something specific (Cyberpower's PC) should be changed to a general "PC's overclock better than laptops" statement, also with a citation, and a brief explanation of why this is so.

The line in question is: "This means that you will never be able to overclock it to the sort of performance levels achieved by Cyberpower's Gamer Infinity PC" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8800:7B09:7700:2C32:6730:C1D3:4585 (talk) 18:25, 6 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Programma 101 claim

Been discussed already at [1]. Mainstream sources do not consider the Olivetti Programma 101 as the first "Desktop computer", they describe it as a programmable calculator. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 01:50, 30 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Olivetti Programma 101 was reinserted into the article with an un-referenced claim by an IP. Per source "technically, the machine was a programmable calculator, not a computer."[2]. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 02:01, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
It literally was an assembly-programmed computer! That merely had a calculator interface. I bet people like you also believe that a smartphone is “not a computer” on the inside. XD
Of course it still wasn’t a desktop computer in the modern sense. But it absolutely was a computer that went on your desktop, in the general sense. 2A02:3035:66F:1E2B:F3DF:599D:23CB:B41B (talk) 07:49, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Images

As of right now (00:11, 11 December 2019 (UTC)), this article is illustrated by one cartoon and photos of two old timey clunkers and of two pseudo-desktop computers. Can we have at least one photo of the actual subject of this article, please? (Here’s some to pick from.) Tuvalkin (talk) 00:11, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

“HEDT” links here but is not explained.

What the hell is “HEDT”? High-end desktop computer is the title, yes, but what does that describe? Why a separate term for just a “fast computer”? 2A02:3035:66F:1E2B:F3DF:599D:23CB:B41B (talk) 07:45, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
