Proposed merge of Summary statistics into Descriptive statistics

Template:Discussion top As per lead: "A descriptive statistic (in the count noun sense) is a summary statistic". fgnievinski (talk) 03:25, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

A descriptive statistic is a kind of summary statistic. But there are plenty of summary statistics that are inferential, not descriptive. An example from genetics is GWAS summary statistics.[1] Inferential statistics are based on probability models, whose usual intent is to model a larger population. I suppose one could create a summary statistic article that is subdivided into inferential and descriptive sections. But I think the field of descriptive statistics is broad and deep enough that it warrants its own article. --{{u|Mark viking}} {Talk} 17:15, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
