Coordinates
The following coordinate fixes are needed for I'm looking at a map of the river and your coordinates for the Des Moines River source seem to be at the dam on lake Shetek, but there is a river running into the lake on the norh end which has a source even further up. —John M. McGraw
- I see your point, the mapped source of the DM is a cluster of glacial lakes in S. MN. There are several small tributary streams that lead to these lakes. Looking at the USGS 1:24000 quad map, none of these tribs are formally named, therefore the river officially begins at Shetek, where the USGS begins to name it. - I'm closing this request, as it seems to have been answered above. (Note also that the article text itself says that Lake Shetek is the source of the West Fork [main branch] of the river.) Deor (talk) 21:41, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi,
In OpenStreetMap, the way https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/51556759 has been imported from nhd database with the name "Des Moines River". Same thing for the downstream ways. If it is true, the Des Moines River begins at the Long lake, not at the Lake Shetek. I'm french so I will not control and improve the main page, I just give you this information if needed. 185.215.65.24 (talk) 16:03, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
