Semi-protected edit request on 10 June 2024
Script error: No such module "protected edit request". Under the section "==Early life==", the opening sentence reads "Jeter was born on June 26, 1974, in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, the son of accountant Dorothy (née Connors) and substance abuse counselor Sanderson Charles Jeter." Can you please add "Derek Sanderson" to open the sentence? It should read "Derek Sanderson Jeter was born on June 26, 1974, in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, the son of accountant Dorothy (née Connors) and substance abuse counselor Sanderson Charles Jeter." 2603:8000:8500:38F2:C5C1:BEEE:B0C9:A94 (talk) 20:25, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
FA Review needed
As I see, the "original research" tag was placed last month. One source is used to cite original research. Cleanup is done to address this, but the tag is still in place. Will add the article in WP:FARGIVEN soon. George Ho (talk) 23:06, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, FA nominator here. I was unaware of an original research tag being placed on the page until I saw your post on my watchlist. Give me a few days to address this. Left guide, is there anything outside of the use of B-Ref that is of concern? – Muboshgu (talk) 23:52, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Template:Yo Thanks for flagging, Baseball-Reference was the main one I spotted some OR and all of those instances should be reviewed (stats databases have a tendency to be used for OR since they don't produce any secondary prose). Ultimately, it would probably help for all of the article's sources to be checked against the text since the article was promoted to FA 12 years ago, but that's not as urgent. Another big concern is that WP:NYPOST is cited about a dozen times. Left guide (talk) 00:23, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. B-Ref provides accurate statistics and some other information (awards and transactions mostly), but can be misused easily. I believe NY Post was cited before it was downgraded at RSP. I argue though that their sports coverage is pretty good. I would never cite them for US politics. I shall go over this page in the next few days. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:26, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi George Ho and Left guide. I did a run through of the citations to Jeter's B-Ref page. Here is my assessment of them, please let me know if you agree or disagree:
- Template:Tq
- Statistics are accurate, but his B-Ref page does not say he is the Yankees all-time leader in them. I will supplement this citation or replace it.
- Template:Tq
- Accurate and included in the B-Ref page. I'll switch the citation to this secondary source.
- Template:Tq
- Accurate, sourced by B-Ref. I can supplement with this source.
- Template:Tq
- Accurate, sourced by B-ref. I'll add this source to beef it up.
- Template:Tq
- I lumped all of these citations together because they are a mess and I will fix this paragraph. B-Ref does support all of this information, though.
- Template:Tq
- Accurate details, sourced by B-Ref and [55]
- Template:Tq
- B-Ref does include this information, but I can find a secondary source on his postseason
- Template:Tq
- Can be better written and sourced, I will find one for this.
- Template:Tq
- Again, sourced to B-Ref, but secondary sourcing such as this can improve this sentence.
- Template:Tq
- Sourced, I believe. I can see if I can find that Courant article in Newspapers.com. I think it covers the Kubek part.
- Template:Tq
- Everything is cited
- Template:Tq
- B-Ref does prove that, but a secondary source would be better.
- Template:Tq
- B-Ref does show this
- Template:Tq
- B-Ref shows this
- Template:Tq
- B-Ref shows this
- Template:Tq
- I can probably find better sourcing for Jeter in the 2009 postseason
- Template:Tq
- Sourced by B-Ref
- Template:Tq
- Sourced by B-Ref ("162 Game Avg." row)
I will work on this and hopefully it will be back up to FA standards by Monday at the latest. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:31, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Template:Yo Very good work, thanks. I also appreciate the efforts to shore up information with secondary sources to better establish due weight. Don't have the time to review everything like you did, but I trust your assessment. Feel free to remove the OR tag anytime without asking me if you deem it no longer necessary. Left guide (talk) 17:39, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! – Muboshgu (talk) 18:03, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Besides the OR tag still intact, I see just two images and a table at the Awards section, but I dunno whether that's okay or not. Other than those, I may have overlooked something; the rest of the article seems to have almost no major apparent issues unless his recent commercial appearances, like a few Capital One spots, are deemed necessary for inclusion. George Ho (talk) 22:40, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oops, I forgot to finish this. I'll blame the 2024 World Series and presidential election for altering my focus. I got through about half of the changes I need to make, I think. I'll finish it off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Capital One commercials can be a sentence. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:24, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I know I still need to finish this... I'm committing to it. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:18, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

- @Left guide @Muboshgu What's the status with the OR tag? Were secondary sources expected in lieu of stats DB refs, or all is fine now? —Bagumba (talk) 02:35, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- I was going to add some more secondary sources to improve context. I just haven't done it yet. I commit to doing it tomorrow, I have some time on my calendar I see. – Muboshgu (talk) 02:40, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ok. Don't rush on my account. I was just wondering where we were. —Bagumba (talk) 02:57, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- This has been in the back of my mind, and I would like to get it out of there. I thought I had some notes I kept off wiki on my progress here, but I'm not finding it yet. I will go back over the list with strikethroughs. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:12, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Can we add an image of Jeter's jump throw in Game 1 of the 1998 ALCS

I do remember this happening
Granted, it was 20 years ago, but they did say it when it happened.
The only other way to check it out is on this pfr page. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/leaders_bat_50_season.shtml It goes from Mattingly down, and Jeter is the first shortstop with 44 doubles in a single season. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:58, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
Hall of fame vote percentage
Jeter's second highest hall of fame vote percentage is tied now with Ichiro Suzuki
https://www.mlb.com/news/ichiro-suzuki-elected-to-baseball-hall-of-fame-2025
"Suzuki received 99.7 percent of the votes cast by eligible members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America."
"Suzuki joined... Yanks icon Derek Jeter (who also had 99.7 percent of the vote)". Cullp (talk) 22:44, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
