The Daughters of Charity and Sisters of Charity are different religious orders; the articles should not be merged. Specifically, the Daughters of Charity is a religous congregation founded by Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul. The Sisters of Charity is not a single religious congregation; rather, there are a number of congregations, 13 of whom in the United States and Canada are affiliated through the Federation of the Sisters of Charity in the Vincentian and Setonian Tradition. These are religious congregations that trace their roots more to Elizabeth Seton than to Louise. The Daughters and Sisters ARE NOT the same organizations and information about the Daughters differs greatly from information about the Sisters. PatriciaT 16:01, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

The Daughters of Charity are a society of apostolic life (CCC, 2004) whereas most of the Sisters of Charity are religious insitutes. for a comprehensive discussion of commonalities, differences, and degress of kinship see Betty Ann McNeil, DC, The Vincentian Family Tree (Vincentian Studies Institute: DePaul University, 1996) which presents an overview of related communities from a genealogical perspective.BAMcNeil (talk) 01:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
