Travel vs transport
With this edit, I substituted the notion of traveling on skis instead of being transported by them. My edit was reverted by User:Graham87. Before restoring my edit, I would like the input of others, as to which is more appropriate: "however, some use it as a means of transportation" (status quo) or "nonetheless, some travel point-to point on skis" (my recommendation). My reasoning is that one travels on skis, but is not transported by them, since the skis are not propelled by other means. Here are some sources on the topic:
- OED: Transport, The action of carrying or conveying a thing or person from one place to another; conveyance. vs Travel, To make a journey, esp. of some length or to a distant or foreign place; to go from place to place.
- Merriam-Webster: Transport, to transfer or convey from one place to another. vs Travel, to go on or as if on a trip or tour.
- Wiktionary: Transport, to carry or bear from one place to another; to remove; to convey. vs Travel, to pass from one place to another.
I look forward to the input of others. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 18:10, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- For me those words are synonymous, but I see that there is some nuance in favour of travel. Historically travel was of course the main or only purpose of skiing. Also today skis are often used for instance for hunting, I guess that is covered by travel. — Erik Jr. 21:51, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- I don't mind either way now that I think about it ... honestly I didn't check the diffs properly (which I should've done) and was rushing through dealing with edits by ComputerUserUser. I've put "travel" back. Graham87 (talk) 00:41, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
