My grandparents are from here. Isn't Potts Creek in the city limits, too? Mike H 17:11, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

Wow, your grandparents are from here? That's really cool, so am I. I don't think Potts Creek is technically in the city limits, but people who live there have Covington as their address.--Champignonne 18:41, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)

POV section removed

I've removed the following paragraphs from the "Geography" section:

Covington, VIrginia has had many choices to make concerning their historic public buildings and most have been removed. The most recent was the razing of the old city hall building which was also an early high school. The decision was prompted by a mayor and two city councilmen that formed a 3-2 majority. Dispite public pressure to find a better use for the old, but sound structure, it was reduced to rubble to make a parking lot. If in Covington, please stop in to see this grand parking lot next to the new eye-sore that is the new city hall.
Currently there is one other historic public building in Covington. The County Courthouse is a dignified structure located on Main Street. Please come take a picture before bad taste and bad government destroy this part of our heritage also.
The Jackson River is a very beautiful scenic river upstream from Covington. For a good look at the ravages of Meade Westvaco pollution go to the hilltop off US220 and observe the pristine green river turn to a dark ugly black color. Pollution does this. The fish downstream from the Covington Meade Westvaco paper mill are not edible and the water is not potable. It has little recreational use and is not safe to swim in the toxic mess. After a hundred years of discharge into the river there are sediments on the bottom that cannot be removed.

The subjects discussed may well be noteworthy (if attributed to a reliable source), but the wording above is very problematic. An editor knowledgeable about these local controversies is invited to rewrite the content in keeping with the neutral point of view policy.

(Personally, I don't doubt the veracity of the claims: the problem is with the tone of the paragraphs.) —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 23:38, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Covington, Virginia named after Peter Covington not General Leonard Covington

138.163.0.43 (talk) 20:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC) I was born in Covington, Virginia and lived there for 20 years. Covington, VA was named after Peter Covington, the town's oldest inhibatint, as shown at this WEB site:Reply

             http://www.covingtonhistory.co.uk/Virginia.htm
It was not named after General Leonard Covington. Also on on Leonard Covington page it gives a lot of (Covington)s in various states it says were named after him. I bet some of them are also not named after Leonard Covington.

The website that you mention above is full of mistakes -- 1990 population of 1,890? Edgemont, Fairlawn, Idlewilde, Parrish Court, Rayon Terrace and Rivermont are "non-populated areas"? Given the errors on that site it would be better to stick with what the city's official web site says. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 08:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have removed this table of historic presidential election results from the article. There is nothing at WP:USCITIES supporting inclusion, and it appears out-of-scope and indiscriminate cruft. Your input is welcome. Magnolia677 (talk) 16:28, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I like these! I am not sure why we wouldn't display them, so long as they're reliably sourced. I don't think most municipality articles do enough to show the political demographics of their populace. ɱ (talk) 17:03, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Keep it: these are or should be on every county article in the country, and this is a Virginia independent city, which is a county-equivalent. They typically wouldn't be on normal city articles though since the data isn't always published at that level as it is for counties. Reywas92Talk 19:59, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
DELETE - these tables overwhelm an article and cause layout problems. These darn things have been causing layout problems in numerous county articles too. Kick them to the curb, instead link to some offsite webpage that shows these tables. NOTE - All data must be verifiable, per Wikipedia:Verifiability. If reference http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS doesn't show all data in this table, then it fails verifiability. • SbmeirowTalk01:36, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
