Ideology in infobox

I don't get where the "instruction" commentary in the infobox comes from. What would be the objection to putting M-L as ideology in infobox? -- Soman (talk) 20:57, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Leadership

The higher body of CPI is secretariat. So please re add the list. Arjun Madathiparambil Muraleedharan (talk) 15:48, 17 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Arjun Madathiparambil Muraleedharan The section I removed seemed to have dozens of names without explanation on why that was needed in this page specifically. I think I didn't understand if the secretariat is the highest governing body of CPI, or it's just another committee in there.
If it's all the leadership of the party then I agree it should be re-added, sorry for reverting you. Maybe we should also add a line or two explaining the same before listing the names Soni (talk) 20:23, 17 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mass organisations

In regards to this edit, I think that for all relevant purposes, AIYF and AISF ought to be recognized as here as the mass organizations of CPI. Whilst is its true that these organization are nominally non-partisan, that arrangement is not really taken seriously by anyone today. Same applies for the relationship between CPI(M) and the Students Federation of India, which is supposedly a non-partisan students organization. Or AITUC for that matter, which is supposedly a non-partisan trade union movement.

There is a plethora of references indicating that AIYF and AISF are the youth and student wings of CPI. For example

  • "... All India Youth Federation , the youth organisation of the Communist Party of India..." ([1])
  • AIYF and AISF mention in section "CPI Youth" (Indian Left Review)
  • "... AIYF can become a member of the primary unit . Having the ideology of scientific socialism and functioning as a mass organization , the AIYF supports the policies of the Communist Party of India ( CPI ) and cooperates with it at..." ([2])
  • "...All India Youth Federation ( AIYF ) , the youth wing of the CPI created furore in the Boat Club , New Delhi on the April 3 , 4 , and 5" ([3])
  • "...student and youth cadres of the CPI , under the party's direction , built up the AISF and founded the All India Youth Federation" ([4])
  • "AIYF unleashes a scathing attack on Pinarayi Vijayan, blaming his decisions for LS poll drubbing. The CPI's youth wing blames the CM's conduct ..." (The Hindu)
  • "The All India Youth Federation (AIYF), the youth outfit of the CPI, has called for the..." (The Hindu)
  • "The party's feeder organisations like the All-India Youth Federation (AIYF) and the All-India Students Federation... The membership of the youth wing, AIYF, will be restricted to those who are below 40 years of age." (Manorama)
  • "The DYFI, AIYF and AIYL are youth wings of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India and the Forward Bloc respectively." (HT)
  • "AIYF, the youth wing of the CPI, has decided to actively support the stance taken by its parent organization by launching a campaign seeking ..." (TOI)
  • "She reached CPI through the student body AISF and the youth wing AIYF." (Kerala Kaumudi)

Etc, etc. -- Soman (talk) 21:40, 26 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for providing the references. It shows that the youth organizations are *aligned* with the Party. There is no question about that. They are also feeder organizations into the Party. However, including the organizations in the Info Box suggests that they are FORMAL wings of the Party i.e. part of the Party structure. That is incorrect. In a history of CPI, it is perfectly fine to mention the relationship of the organizations with the Party, but not in the Info box. I hope you will agree that our aim should be to provide accurate information. Peoplesforum (talk) 18:16, 8 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, the notion of 'youth wing' usually does not require that the youth wing is an integral part of the party organization. Youth wings are generally organizations with their own structure, but that are aligned with a political party. --Soman (talk) 09:52, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Flag

According to this article, the flag described in the party constitution has no letters on it at all. But the flag pictured in the article has C P I down the side. Why do they not agree? TooManyFingers (talk) 03:25, 19 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
