Script error: No such module "Banner shell".

Origins of paper folding

I have removed the bit in the lead saying paperfolding originated in China and that it was brought from China to Japan in the 6th century. This is cited to "Script error: No such module "citation/CS1".". The tiny 'history' in from Angelfish simply has no basis in anything except conjecture. See History of origami. We don't know when paperfolding started, all we know is when paper was introduced from China to Japan. We don't know if any paperfolding was done in China before then or when it started in China. Even the word 'origami' may be a Japanese translation of a German term and not as described in that book, they used a different term in the 19th century.

By the way there should be some mention of burning paper yuanbao in the article I think, the practice of burning paper models at funerals must date back quite a bit. Dmcq (talk) 22:04, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I put a ref, verifiability is what matters. Although I have no intention put it back, that's quite something... Fine, fine, how about: "Some scholars say that it was the predecessor of Japanese origami,(ref here) but this is doubted by other scholars.(ref here)" Anyway, I guess I'll leave it at this reply and drop it now. What you did was quite correct and thanks, it's just sometimes references conflict with each other. And you've started the ball rolling as it were so now other references need to go in otherwise yours would stand. I'll get some others and stick it all into the history section.
