Old talk page post

I removed the Image:Cato.jpeg because its not Cato the younger, a man who died 40 something, known by his beeked nose and tall neck. I wonder if its Cato the elder. [[User:Muriel Gottrop|muriel@pt]] 15:29, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Legacy of Cato the Younger

Will probably move the long legacy section to a new article at Legacy of Cato the Younger. Ifly6 (talk) 18:07, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Split was just completed. Received no comment (dissenting or otherwise) both here and on WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome. Ifly6 (talk) 07:13, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Was Cato "conservative?"

Ten instances in the current article describe Cato as "conservative." Is this warranted? If so, what is the Latin equivalent? "Stoic" seems to be a more appropriate descriptor, if one is needed.

To clarify the concern, Kongzi (Confucius) was also scrupulously honest, professed respect for tradition, and focused on the preservation of values that he saw as in decline, but it would be odd, and one-sided, to refer to him or his ideas throughout an encyclopedia entry as "conservative."

I would suggest deleting all current mentions of "conservative" in this entry and adding a section along the lines of "Cato and Contemporary Conservative Movements." Catuskoti (talk) 02:26, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

We go by what sources say, and there is direct quotation referring to his ideology as conservative in the article. Remsense 02:28, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
