Might also want to mention callboxes along highways every mile, to report accidents and the like. This is common on most US highways. Lyellin Dec 24 2003

Thanks for pointing that out! Added a mention of them and also their use in subway systems. --Sewing 21:21, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Taxi callboxes are also common in Paris, where they are called "bornes de taxis", but the current article does not adequately describe them. As opposed to the taxi callboxes described in the article, these callboxes are not used to call a central dispatching station. Rather, they are a way for people in the neighborhood to call for a locally-situated cab. If I call my local taxi callbox, the driver whose taxi is located at the head of the taxi stand will answer and then come to the address that I specify (providing it is truly nearby). Some of the statements here about CA seem to conflict with official FAQ's on usage: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/paffairs/faq/faq71.htm ("Call boxes throughout California generate more than 100,000 calls per month.") --Etcetera (talk) 21:54, 6 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Campus callboxes

I'd like to know when emergency callboxes started popping up on college campuses? 2000s or much earlier? Was there some event or series of events that precipitated them? --Limxzero (talk) 20:48, 31 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
