counting crows/modest mouse

I don't think the photos of Counting Crows or Modest Mouse contribute much to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.208.82.134 (talk) 21:45, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

They act to illustrate the text; if you have any photos of Cake around the same era, we'd love to have them :). Ironholds (talk) 17:19, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Page numbers?

The sources should include page numbers for the articles so one can find them in old issues. The page number parameter works just like in Template:Tl. Hekerui (talk) 16:56, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Will do as part of the GAN; a wee bit distracted IRL at the mo. Ironholds (talk) 17:19, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm new to this, so be kind. I believe it should be noted that they are also well known for the superb bass playing of Gabe Nelson. That is the very reason many listen to them and the article doesn't even mention it. 24.9.224.64 (talk) 14:27, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

What Cake is Known For

I'm new to this, so be kind. I believe it should be noted that they are also well known for the superb bass playing of Gabe Nelson. That is the very reason many listen to them and the core of all their songs-- and the article doesn't even mention it. 24.9.224.64 (talk) 14:27, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sure; no need to be scared :). I agree that Gabe's lines are both important and awesome - but I can't find any sources discovering it. If you can find like, a news article or something, I'll happily include it :). Ironholds (talk) 14:34, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Also, I know this article used to talk about their wide use of syncopation. I think that old write up was superior to this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.9.224.64 (talk) 14:38, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

This band hates veterans that love and adore them that have mildly different political opinions. They take away your voice the moment you make a fair point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.193.36.5 (talk) 19:24, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Timeline

The timeline might need a little finessing, and the dates might need to be altered a bit. The info on wether Greg Brown quit in 1998 or 1997 seems contradictory, as his Wiki page says 1998 while this wiki page says 1997. Feel free to correct the dates accordingly. PaintedCarpet (talk) 11:53, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the awesome new functionality! My sources say 1997. Ironholds (talk) 12:59, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm pretty sure the first drummer for Cake was actually a local Sacramento drummer by the name of Rich Shepherd, who later became the drummer for Cause and Effect. At least, that's how I remember it. Of course, that's back before anyone signed them and they were playing local gigs here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.195.201.121 (talk) 17:18, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Motorcade/EP releases/timeline

So, a few details, and I should know, since I was directly involved.

Prior to the release of Motorcade, CAKE released two eps on cassette, as well as a vinyl single. The first EP, titled CAKE, consisted of four songs - Jolene, Stickshifts, Ruby Sees All, and Shadow Stabbing. The tracks were recorded at various venues, including the Old Ironsides, and overdubbed at Vince's apartment. It was released in 100 copies around June 1992. It was also used for promotional purposes to get gigs in other cities.

The second EP was recorded at Pus Cavern, and included Rock and Roll Lifestyle, Is This Love?, Jolene, and I Bombed Korea. Other songs were recoded at this session, including Daria, but weren't used.

A vinyl single was released as well, featuring Rock and Roll Lifestyle and Jolene. This was released in mid 1993 as well as the second cassette EP.

Following this, Frank and Gabe left CAKE, and were replaced by Vic (who left 23 to do so) and Todd.

Session again started up at Pus Cavern in October 1993, continuing through January 1994. These provided the rest of the Motorcade album, released in April 1994 on Stamen Music. So, it is Vic and Todd on the rest of the songs on the album. Other songs recorded included "Sheep Go To Heaven", "Short Skirt", and "Exotic Love".

After the band was picked up by Capricorn, the cd was again released in April 1995. It was also remastered by Don Tyler and re-reissued in the late 90s, as near as I can tell from the copy I have. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mutantmoose (talkcontribs) 21:55, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

More photos on Commons

Template:Sister project I recently added some photos to Commons, including shots that include more of the band members. Perhaps File:WWDC09-Cake-15 (4694802725).jpg could replace the photo of McCrea in the infobox. I haven't yet identified the drummer however. Cheers, --Animalparty-- (talk) 22:05, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Update: I think the drummer may be Tom Monson [1], who played on Showroom of Compassion --Animalparty-- (talk) 22:32, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Alternative to what?

"Cake (stylized CAKE) is an American alternative rock band"

Alternative to what?

I came to this page to find out what kind of music they play. I never did and probably never will understand the terms "Alternative band" and "Alternative rock". Do they even mean anything at all? ---Dagme (talk) 18:04, 16 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Assuming good faith, yes, alternative rock has a well-established meaning as alternative to mainstream rock. Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:00, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Peter McNeal pedo drummer and arrest.

Why wasn't that 2014 conviction fact included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.158.212.202 (talk) 16:42, 16 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Probably because he left the band in 2004. Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:13, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Introductory section too long?

As someone just investigating the band, the opening section seems too long as an introductory paragraph. I'm a neophyte to their music and may come across as being harsh, but I would think the opening paragraphs don't need to list all their albums or personnel changes. I should think it would be sufficient to say when they were formed, who the founders were, what they're known for, a list of some of their albums (not all), who the current personnel are, and an "as of this writing their most recent recording is..." "Inactive" inaccuracy

At the moment the article says the following:

"On October 25, 2018, the band released the music video for 'Sinking Ship," also announcing that money raised by single sales would go towards Doctors Without Borders.[113] The band have been inactive since then, and as of January 2021 no new studio album has been announced"

This isn't entirely active, the band has been doing live shows, released a vinyl single of 'Sinking Ship' which also included a new song (a cover of "Age of Aquarius"), and I believe released "Age of Aquarius" on Apple Music in some territories (although not in mine). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.203.247 (talk) 17:56, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
