Antibiotics and temperature

I noticed that the part about using antibiotics as a preventative was removed... People seem to like Melafix a lot, but there's some debate as to whether or not it's actually effective at preventing and treating infection (studies, anyone?). While antibiotics are certainly less gentle, they're also proven, and not likely to harm the fish if used in small amounts.

Also, a word of warning about high (>72F) temperatures... If you're using a large tank and a canister filter (which doesn't agitate the surface very much), it's likely that there won't be enough oxygen in the water. Bubble walls can correct this to some extent, but my fancy goldfish (bubble eye included) are healthy and active at 70 degrees. Health-wise, 8 to 10 degrees difference in temperature are a lot less important than adequate oxygen, so in my estimation it's safer to make the water slightly cooler than the fish like it than risk suffocating them. Capitals? bubble eye or Bubble Eye

At the moment title has 2 capitals, almost all article appearances use none. I don't really have a preference but it must be constant throughout. Will change all to capitals seems to be the usual way. If anyone wants to change it move the article to new title as well. Carlwev (talk) 19:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Poor article

Feel free to improve the article, but, as was previously mentioned on this talk page, the answer to your question is selective breeding, just as it is for why some dogs have face that are so brachycephalic that they have trouble breathing, or why some plants can no longer propagate without human intervention.
