Modern day definition of billet
To me, the term "billet" as described in this article is most used in a civilian setting - say a school student or a member of a club - not just a military person. There isn't any mention of this in the article, which makes me wonder if other terms are used for this definition that I am not aware of? -- Chuq 10:13, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- I also agree. The term billet can be likened to a landparent. For example, junior hockey players living away from while part of a hockey program. Flibirigit 05:22, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- I would further question "billet" as being a "US" term, as the article indicates. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word as follows: "ORIGIN originally denoting a short written document, later a written order requiring a householder to lodge the bearer: from Old French billette ‘little bill’;". Ergo, I'd be tempted to severely edit this article... Wikig39 (talk) 13:02, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Not difficult, with EB1911 to help. David Brooks (talk) 02:22, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps a section for etymology would be beneficial. NedTown5000 (talk) 00:30, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

- sofixit... I did. I'll figure out if the reference is useful in Billet (manufacturing). David Brooks (talk) 02:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
